Renting an Alamo hire car to pick up in Oregon is hassle-free, and you have the opportunity to select a model to meet you and your family or party's needs. It is the most convenient and economical way to travel while you are enjoying your holiday.
Situated on the Pacific north-west, Oregon's varied countryside and vibrant urban centres attract millions of visitors every year. The state is a mix of forests and waterfalls, mountain ranges and the rugged Pacific coast, with prairies and desert to the east. You'll certainly need a reliable hire car in order to see it all, and Alamo has handy depots at Portland International Jetport, Eugene Airport and Redmond Municipal Airport, with a fleet of clean, modern vehicles awaiting collection.
Often considered the greenest city in America, Portland is also home to a vibrant arts and music scene, and the Portland Arts Museum is one of the largest in America. If you are a fan of craft beers, Portland is at the centre of the microbrewery explosion in the US. Portland is also an ideal location for water sports, hiking, cycling or a round of golf.
Oregon is surely a motorist's state, with many spectacular scenic drives. Perhaps the best, and certainly the most historic, is the Columbia River Highway. The highway was originally built between 1913 and 1922 with the express intention of making the beautiful waterfalls, canyons and mountain views of the Columbia Gorge accessible to ordinary drivers. A 74-mile section of this road has been preserved, running from Troutdale (just east of Portland) to The Dalles, and still takes in many natural beauty spots and historic man-made wonders. The 66-mile Cascade Lakes Highway tour is also recommended, taking in mountains, lakes and rivers and some incredible volcanic landscapes. This central Oregon road trip can be reached from Eugene via Route 58.
Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon is one of the most popular attractions in the state, centred on the spectacular natural formation of Crater Lake itself. This is one of the deepest lakes in the world, reaching 592 metres in the centre of a collapsed volcano. The 183,225 acre park also includes other volcanic features, such as the Pumice Desert and the solidified lava spires known as the Pinnacles. The Rim Drive allows you to drive around the rim of Crater Lake itself, following a circular 33-mile highway with eight different observation points along the way, all granting stunning views.
With so much to see and do, a reliable car rental service is essential, so be sure to give Alamo a try, and provide yourself the freedom to make the most of this wild and varied state.
