There's a huge choice of places to stay in this glittering metropolis, from skyscraper luxury hotels to family-friendly resorts where you can cool off in the pool, and on the outskirts, you'll find charmingly old fashioned motels perfect as a base for exploring the desert. For a fantastic day trip, take the I-17 north to explore the ancient ruins at Montezuma's Castle. Swing by Sedona to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross and you'll be only an hour's drive away from Arizona's most famous sight, the Grand Canyon.
Getting out into the desert will also give you the chance to take in the natural beauty of the area with its stunning rock formations and surprising abundance of wildlife. It's said that Arizona's night sky has scarcely a rival in the world, with brilliant stars everywhere you look, but remember that temperatures can get very low in the desert at night, and don't forget to take something you can wrap up in.
